Abstract

Building a criminal profile is a forensic method used to lead police investigation toward crime explanations. The perpetrator’s identity is not established, but his psychological characteristics are described. In this way, investigators limit the number of suspicious individuals. It is very useful in those cases where there are a high number of traces and evidence since the psychological trace of the perpetrator is tied to the scene of the crime. This is added to other determinations such as the psychological autopsy, and the criminal study of the scene. Building a profile is an indispensable tool for current criminal investigations.
