Abstract

The identification of bite marks is based on the individuality of human dentition. Arch shape, tooth size or characteristics such as shape and alignment allow us to identify an alleged aggressor successfully.

Bite marks can be found on the victim's skin or in foodstuffs and objects discovered at the crime scene.

The techniques used to study and analyse bite marks have improved a great deal in recent years, from techniques of transillumination to more modern techniques based computer technology. An insufficient number of studies have been performed to compare the different techniques and allow researchers to come to a consensus.
