Abstract

Cheiloscopy, is a dental identification method used in criminal science; based on the study of the lips which have many elevations and depressions forming a characteristic patterns of the wrinkles and grooves on labial mucosa. The validity of Cheiloscopy is parallel in the analysis of fingerprints, due to the similarity in the characteristics presented in such prints; they are unique, invariable, and permanent and can be categorized. Nevertheless, we have found authors that assure that the wrinkles and grooves on the lips can be influenced by a hereditary factor and therefore one can apply the potential for paternity determination, the same way as with blood group.
