Social determinants of blindness and visual impairment and prevention strategies: analysis and experience from the field of visual health
Abstract
This article explores the existence of social determinants in the development and evolution of blindness and visual impairment, as well as the strategies that can be employed to reduce their impact and thus alleviate an issue that often results in marginalization and the limitation of life opportunities.
Through information obtained from literature review and primary sources, key social determinants for the onset and development of visual conditions have been identified, including educational level, economic income, and public health expenditure; gender, and in some cases, cultural traditions.
