Abstract

This article presents an outlook of Brazilian Subnational (state and municipal) Governments' international development cooperation. During the last years there has been a considerable increase of bilateral and multilateral cooperation supply, to which Brazilian governments have been very receptive. It is highlighted the role of central government in the conceptualisation of the decentralised cooperation as a development strategy and a dimension of the foreign policy, as well as in the creation of support structures to the subnational governments and, basically, in its activism in several fora and existing mechanisms.
