Monitoring South-South cooperation (may to september 2013)
Abstract
Between May and September 2013, several international meetings took place in which South-South Cooperation was on debate. It is clear, by the reports from those meetings, that the construction of a development agenda post 2015 had become the articulation axe of discussions. In an international framework where it appears some signs of a changing cycle that —both in a short and medium term— could affect the actual strengths of southern countries, the protagonists of South-South Cooperation might be deliberate and decided in place that they will take in the establishment of the new development agenda. Meanwhile, United Nations and their agencies don’t find their role in the South-South Cooperation. Latin America and the Caribbean still maintain the leadership in the debates with strong intern differences, Asia doesn’t show too much interest in it, and meanwhile the 50th anniversary of the AU takes place in Africa, long term development strategies are aiming to be established in which South-South and traditional cooperation and perhaps a new North-South cooperation are called to accomplish their promises.
