Spain and triangular cooperation: consolidating horizontal partnerships
Abstract
Spain as a member of the international, European and Ibero-American community has accompanied the process of global recognition of triangular cooperation (TRC). Spanish cooperation (SC) has progressively incorporated into strategic planning and operational management the recommendations on TRC of multilateral forums, especially Latin American, becoming, by the increase of its commitment to triangular projects, one of its most relevant actors. This article reviews the process that has led to SC, with special emphasis on the role of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), to include TRC among the new generation instruments with the greatest potential to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
