Sustainable development and European Union: the terms of the cooperation policy after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda
Abstract
The European Union is a major player in the field of sustainable development. Following the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, it has launched multiple actions demonstrating its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals. But prior to the adoption of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 70/1, the European Union had already been active on these issues. Of the various tasks carried out by the European Union, this paper analyses the most relevant ones in order to identify to what extent it has contributed to the fulfilment of the 2030 Agenda. To this end, it highlights the European Consensus on Development, which embodies the general action framework for the achievement of the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda.
