Spaces of closure. Sanitary prevention, territorial updating and self-employment of crossings at the La Quiaca (Arg.) - Villazón (Bol.) border in the epidemiological situation

Abstract

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, international borders took center stage and were the first areas on which sanitary control was activated. In this article we ask ourselves: What policies were implemented on the Argentine-Bolivian border? What senses of frontier do these policies actualize? In order to answer these questions, we propose to analyze the national, provincial and municipal policies implemented in the border area between La Quiaca-Villazón (Argentina and Bolivia) from March 2020 to October 2021. Our objective is to account for how the design and implementation of health prevention policies updating historical meanings of territory and population in the border area.
