Gait analisis using triaxial accelerometry in horses sedated with acepromazine
Abstract
Objective: quantify by accelerometry the locomotor pattern in horses sedated with acepromazineMethodology: seven horses were used and administered 2 treatments: saline solution and acepromazine (0.04 mg / kg). Is used an orthogonal accelerometer measuring acceleration along three axes. Accelerometric records were obtained after treatment, repeated every five minutes during the first 20 minutes and then every 10 minutes for 3 hours. Parameters sedation was also measured. Results: acepromazine decreased some of the variables. Speed, stride frequency and stride length were significantly reduced post-treatment. For the coordination parameters no significant differences were observed. Energy variables suffered only minor reductions while the ground-lip distance values decreased.Clinical significance: acepromazine produce significant changes in the pattern but does not affect the variables of coordination in horses and may be the tranquilizer of choice for evaluating lameness.Downloads
