“Jineterismo”: ¿turismo sexual o uso táctico del sexo?
Abstract
This paper deals with the relationships between tourists and people from Cuba at beginning of the 21st century. Based on the ethnographic research carried out in the island and the review of existing ethnographies, mainly in the Caribbean context, it is intended to show the “sexual tourism” as a social scene in which, from a point of view local and global, to investigate about the (re) production of the inequalities of gender, race, class and nationality. I refer to the “jineterismo” as a phenomenon located in Cuba characterizated by the overlapped relations between sexuality and tourism and which involves relations of domination of gender, class and historical–political position. A term that, from my point of view, is reappropiated by the population to claim survival strategies that include sexuality.Downloads
