Abstract

This paper considers the transitional figure "twilight has swung", which plays a central role in a crepuscular ritual of divine possession performed in the Central Himalayas in northern India. The figure is presented in terms of western tropology, of classical indian tropology, and, using both, is considered in its associations to some highly charged aspects of Central Himalayan life and in its role in the ritual process.
