Abstract

Framed in the anthropology of conservation, the article proposes an ethnographic analysis of the management of two Natural Parks in the Comunitat Valenciana: Montgó and Serra Calderona. From situated perspective, access is gained to the discourses and daily practices of inhabitants and visitors of these spaces, and the results of a research based on participant observation and the realization of focus groups and participatory workshops with the local population and representatives of the main economic sectors and the associative network are presented. After describing the regional process of institutionalization of the conservation of both NPs, the analytical categories that have emerged from the field are addressed, focusing on the discourses surrounding the transformation of uses and activities, tourism impacts, forest management and, finally, social participation and the possibilities of environmental governance.
