Prisons: Anthropological Perspectives
Abstract
Over the last two decades, anthropology's interest in the study of prisons has grown significantly, although most academic output focuses on the Anglo-Saxon world and/or is written in English. Based on four thematic areas: inside/outside connections, gender, agency and resistance, and the (post)colonial nature of these institutions, and in dialogue with a brief overview of the current state of the art, this text presents the anthropological research included in the monograph, developed in an international context (Africa, Latin America, the United States, and Europe) and written or translated into Spanish.
