The support group experience in the grieving process of family members of children with cancer. A qualitative study.

Abstract

Objective: The present study proposes to analyze the discourse of a group of relatives in mourning for the death of a child with cancer, who attended the support groups of the Olivares Foundation in Malaga. Method: Analysis of the discourse of the nine family members participating in the support group. Results: From the discourse of these participants, statements related to the improvement of the quality of life of these people are obtained through social support, emotional well-being and emotional expression. Conclusion: The support group is emerging as a useful tool for family members who are living this process and facilitates social support and emotional expression and well-being. Important preliminary implications derive from this preliminary study.
