Higashitani Hidehito.
Abstract
Edited by José Pazó Espinoza and David Almazán Tomás, this book brings together 101 articles written by the Japanese hispanist Hidehito Higashitani for the digital newspaper El Imparcial, between 26th May 2008 and 20th November 2013. These essays address different topics on current affairs, as well as aspects of the Japanese cultural tradition and its links with the Hispanic world. The book is organized in four thematic sections: traditional and contemporary Japanese art, comments on current Japan, stories and experiences about Spanish people in Japan and, finally, the relation of Japan with the rest of the world. The aim of this review is to show that, through a miscellany of subjects, the book exhibits a well-defined authorial perspective, which finds its roots both in the Enlightenment thinking and in the Japanese tradition, forming a genuine and dynamic integration of both cultures
