Research in Spanish public collections on Japanese sword fittings. A starting point for Hispanic studies on the subject

Abstract

Historical-artistic research on Japanese weapons appeared in the Japanese archipelago in the 18th century, and more specifically, studies on their fittings, in the mid-19th century. In the West we will have to wait until the beginning of the 20th century to see the first works of academic class published. However, the world of Hispanic studies on the subject has barely begun to walk. It is only in the last decade, when a greater number of publications have been made, both scientific and informative on this subject. In the case of Spain, we have doctoral thesis, as well as publications and communications in national and international congress sponsored by different universities. This predicts an auspicious future for research into Japanese weapons in Spain, fostering a greater exchange of knowledge and opening new fronts for Japanese studies, available in the common language of Spanish-speaking countries.
