Abstract
The Andalusian Jesuit Fernando García Gutiérrez (1928-2108), professor, writer, collector and art historian, is indisputably one of the great pioneers in the study of Japanese art in Spain. His contributions to the research and dissemination of Japanese artistic manifestations in our country have been very significant. The book, published by the Hasekura Association of Coria del Río (Seville) and written by Dr. Elena Barlés Báguena (University of Zaragoza), offers a biography of this great scholar; an extensive review of his literary and academic work (books, articles, lectures and exhibitions) and of the collection of East Asian art that he treasured (now in the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Santa Isabel de Hungría - Seville); as well as a selection of photographs from his personal album. The work is based on Father Fernando's personal testimonies, on various interviews conducted by the author with many of his his relatives and friends, on newspaper and periodicals sources and on an abundant bibliography.
