Reflections on the image of Japan disseminated by Spanish press during the transition towards the new regime
Abstract
The purpose of the present work is to present some findings about the image that Spain had of Japan before its opening in 1854. Findings, that are the result of a research that aimed to analyse the Spanish press from 1758 to 1800 in order to gain an idea of the vision that Spanish readers would have had of Japan at the time, as well as to see how the press spoke about Japan, which were the dominant ideas, trying to discover if some of the clichés about Japan which are still present today, were existent at that time.Downloads
