Meanings of Community: the Incidence of Social Brokers’ Relationships in the Process of Ethnic Emergence in Mendoza-Argentina
Abstract
The article analyses the influence of brokers’ relationships during the Huarpe emergence process in Mendoza Province (Argentina). The analysis focuses on the attributed and negotiated meanings of community by the local population and the social brokers coming from public and religious institutions. The case study shows that the communalization process not only involves the (re)elaboration of a shared history and a feeling of belonging, but also the signification of institutional and organizational formats imposed by the state and the social brokers.Downloads
