Con-Textos Kantianos – Dossier 2025 “Kant on Sentiments: Between Morality and Aesthetics” Editors: Faustino Fabbianelli and Antonino Falduto

2024-07-19

The concept of “sentiment” plays a fundamental role in the context of Kant’s philosophy, notwithstanding the clear centrality of reason in the transcendental enterprise. The dossier of the Journal Con-Textos Kantianos dedicated to the topic Kant on Sentiments: Between Morality and Aesthetics aims to make a genuine new contribution to the debate surrounding the renaissance of Kant studies in the last few decades dedicated to the “other” Kant, i.e. the one focusing on sensibility and sentiments.

To this end, in particular, we will welcome studies that focus on the role played by the concept of sentiment both in the context of Kant’s philosophy overall and in the one of its legacy – from Kant’s time up to nowadays. A specific goal of the dossier will be that of overcoming the gap of thinking of sentiments in a separate way, which does not take into account the closeness of the ethical and aesthetic realms.

On the basis of these considerations, the topics we intend to address are:

  1. The meaning and reasons why Kant chose the terminology he adopted for addressing the topic of sentiments;
  2. The influence of ancient philosophy on Kant’s reflections on sentiments;
  3. The role of different kinds of sentiments both in the context of practical philosophy and aesthetics.

We invite interested researchers to submit their proposals in English (however, contributions in Spanish, German, French, Italian, or Portuguese could also be considered). The deadline for submission is February 28, 2025.

The articles must adhere to the format required by the journal (https://revistas.ucm.es/index.php/KANT/about/submissions) and not exceed 12,000 words.

After the submission, the articles will undergo double-blind peer review.

For further information, interested researchers can also contact the guest editors of the dossier: Faustino Fabbianelli (faustino.fabbianelli@unipr.it) and Antonino Falduto (antonino.falduto@unife.it).
