Abstract

The leading mode of sea surface temperature (SST) variability in the Tropical Atlantic is investigated on relation with the extratropical teleconnections, in particular with the winter European precipitation anomalies. Observational teleconnection evidences with the Tropical Atlantic upper ocean (0-500 m) are also shown. At the same time, relationships with the known Tropical Atlantic Variability (VAT) are also found. Through the observational analysis of data from different oceanic and atmospheric variables, a possible atmosphere-ocean-atmosphere feedback mechanism is proposed to explain this teleconnection found.
