Abstract

The Strong Motion Databank MPS has been designed, compiling and classifying accelerograms and spectra from alí over the world, and aimed to L. Cabañas y otros Banco de Datos de Movimiento Fuerte del Suelo MFS... provide a way out to problems of characterization of ground motion in a certain site. This databank is complemented with, an associate database where Ihe available seismic information corresponding to tbe records is catalogued, as well as, with a developed software for consulting purposes, record processing, graphic representation and derived parameter assessment. In this work the characteristics of the developed databank and database are presented, emphasizing in aspects such as lis composition, the information structure and possible exploitations. A first application using this data has consisted in estimating, within the Mediterranean region and Spain, empirical attenuation relationships for peak ground acceleration (PGA), as a function of magnitude, distance, and soil class.
