Sismicidad y sismotectónica de Cuba.
Abstract
Cuba is a tectonic block located, at least since Upper Eoeene, in the southern part of the North American plate. Cuban structure is divided by M. Cotilla Rodríguez Sismie»idad y sismoteclóníca de Cuba two active fault systems (NW and WNW-NW directions). Three seísmotectonic units (Western, Eastern and Southeastern) are delimitated by seismic and neotectonie data. The seismogenic source Bartlett-Cayman mdicates interaetion differences between North American and Caribbean píates. This plate border of left-lateral strike-slip regime produced the largest earthquakes (M < 8,0). From Cabo Cruz to east the focal mechanísm is a eombination of strike-slip and tlirust faulting. To Western unit the seísmícity is of the intraplate type (Ms = 7,0) with a predominant knots' faults mechanism.Downloads
