The late writing of Minutes Books in the monasteries of the Cistercian Congregation of Castile’s (1659-1835)
Abstract
Compared with that occurred in other institutions, the General Chapter of the Cistercian Congregation of Castile regulated only in very late date (1659) the necessary elaboration of minutes books in the different monasteries that were part of it. From then on, a new documentary typology begins, whose content will be defined and delimited with time. This will vary slightly depending on the functioning of each monastery (school, head abbey, etc.), but the book will always be under the respon-sibility of the secretary of each community in the case of male monasteries and, quite possibly, of the father confessor or steward in the feminine ones.
This article analyzes from diplomatic perspective the minutes books of minutes of cistercians abbeys. We study the changes that were produced throughout the time and the composition of this documentary series.
