Some ideas from the communications law to audiovisual fiction: the analysis of the essential component of films´ message starting with the consideration of the diegetic universe of Toy Story
Abstract
Film is a powerful form of communication that can show the public a way of seeing and understanding the world. This is the great educator power today. However, the law as regards the regular cinema has focused on issues such as copyright and the working environment in this industry, without addressing the assessment and shaping of the message. In this investigation we suggest that from the Communication Law we can assess the true message that corresponds to the film. To achieve this goal, we provide a systematic set of criteria for studying the consistency of the message. The proposal is based on three elements of analysis: the configuration of the characters from their internal conflicts, thematic issues identified by the practical time protagonist and narrative structure and its relationship with the diegetic laws. For adequacy and relevance, the method is tested with the analysis of the possible world of Toy Story.
