Abstract

The processes of regional integration in Latin America have focused until now on free trade agreements, passively adapting to the economic interests of globalization led by transnational companies, but have been unable to solve the problems of poverty, inequality, unemployment and the lack of labor and social rights suffered by a large part of the population. This article, presenting the framework of the monograph, analyses the new scenario developed in the region in recent years, and the possibilities it opens up for a wider and more balanced process of integration, with special reference to recent summits and the role that the social partners and social dialogue can play in the improvement of the labor and social conditions of the peoples sof Latin America.
