Abstract

The history of the wage relation shows us that a transfer process of certain domestic activities to capitalist production has taken place. This process depends on the yielding of benefits (in the case of the business sphere) or on the state’s redistribution of the wealth generated by the body of workers. The increasing participation of women in the labour market and the substitution of some domestic goods and services by socialized production involve an inherently unstable process of reorganization of time and social categories. This fact brings up the need of analysing not only the position of women and men in the mentioned reorganization, but also the social dynamics which support them. In order to explain such dynamics this paper expresses the need to specify what we mean when we talk about gender relations. Our methodological alternative to determine this concept is to study the interdependence between domestic and wage relations.
