Irregular employment in the labour market trajectories of young people. A mixed method approach of descriptive and sequential nature
Abstract
This article longitudinally examines the presence of irregular employment in the labour market trajectories of young people between 20 and 34 years in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area. The objective is to detect how this type of employment is interlinked with other experiences in the labour market and to identify the differences determined by the socio-economic category of parents. To do so, data coming from a hybrid survey of our own are used. This survey provided a wealth of information on the presence of jobs without a contract, without remuneration or undeclared in the labour market trajectories. These data were analysed using the sequence analysis technique. The results show, on the one hand, that irregular employment is widespread among all the social profiles analysed. On the other hand, from the point of view of the longitudinal development of irregular employment, differences depending on the socio-economic category of parents are found.
