Abstract

The university of Barcelona began the teaching of prehistory and archaeology in 1916 with professor P. Bosch Gimpera. Since then archaeology at Barcelona university experimented a brilliant trajectory and it has known different study programs which are presented and discussed. The accumulated experience along nearly a century of archaeology teaching and researching has been useful for the organization of an own degree in archaeology: Higher Degree in Archaeology, which has been active along the last four academic courses. The structure of the degree is offered, an analysis of its viability is conducted considering the existing social demand, and finally, the creation of a Degree in Archaeology is considered the best way to assure the future of archaeology at Spanish university.
