Abstract

During last decades community museums have been, one of the most important tools that communities have to defend their heritage - both tangible and intangible - and a  territory and  sustainable tourism. Therefore, it is also important that they become tools to achieve more egalitarian societies. In most of the countries where community museums have been developed, women are in charge of maintaining many of their traditional crafts, and also  of transmitting  their ancestral knowledge to the new generations. In the same way, their role as managers of the museums, has also

increased over the years. For this reason,  we believe that it is very important that  gender perspective is also included in the exhibitions, both permanent and temporary, in these museums. Our experience in research on the gender perspective applied to archaeological museums,  also allows us to transfer these feminist reflections to the field of community museums.
