La formación de la Milicia Nacional en Lleida (1820-1821)
Abstract
At the beginning of the Liberal Triennium, the National Militia did not have a great drawing power and it was not until November 1820 when two battalions could be formed. Their task was crucial; they had to assure the public peacefulness, to defend the constitutional system and to fight against the absolutism groups. Their main problem was the lack of armament and uniforms, besides, they did not arouse a great enthusiasm between the Lleida’s population due to its compulsory character. Even though, in the year 1821, with the creation of the Voluntary Militia and Rafael de Riego’s arrival to the city, this military group grew in prominence, in importance and in popularity in Lleida.Downloads
