The New Man: cultural strategies around masculinity in Argentina (1918- 1976)
Abstract
This paper analyses manhood’s representations in relationship with search for identity made by a nation born recently and which had had a complex immigration phenomenon. In fact, we study here some aspects of the peripheral reception of one civilization process what shown us an idealized manhood. From here, were originated models affirming or questioning them; and were linked, always, to wide politics programs. The modulations assumed by the new man through the new generation idea, the fascistic new man, Biotypology’s perfect man, the “descamisado” and the revolutionary new man, constituted cultural characters which will be here read from their articulation with some aspects of the development of Argentinian politic culture between 1918 and 1976.Downloads
