Abstract

This article seeks to explore the connections between the process of democratization and the labor movement from the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera to the Second Republic. Contrary to commonly considered, here we will defend that the process leading to April 14th started from bottom up, maturing for a long time during the dictatorship, being its hegemonic agent (at least in Barcelona) the workerism. In order to do this, we will discuss the interpretation of democracy in studies, and review some consensus historiography of the period, while we will try to analize the democratic conception present in the labor movement.
