Myth and Reality of the “Europe’s Crusade against Bolshevism”
Abstract
The article bridges a transnational overview on the participation of Germany’s allied forces in the German- Soviet war of 1941-45, including both the troops sent by the Third Reich’s Allies that declared war on the Soviet Union and the diverse units of volunteers recruited by the Wehrmacht and the Waffen SS from all over Europe, under the influence of the propaganda campaign that depicted the war as an European Crusade against Bolshevism. The experience of the Spanish Volunteers’ Division or Blue Division is finally framed within this context.Downloads
