The Nationalization of Gas in the United Kingdom and France through the Trade Press (1939–1949)
Abstract
This article analyzes the reaction of the gas industry in the United Kingdom and France to the nationalization of the service after the Second World War, as reflected in the sector’s specialized press. The research aims to comparatively study the role played by the main British and French periodicals in interpreting, disseminating, and fostering public debate on gas nationalization in both countries between 1939 and 1949. To this end, the study relies primarily on the critical and qualitative analysis of the Gas Journal and the Journal des Usines à Gaz.
