The Constantine Rhodius' invective against Leo Choirosphaktes: translation and remarks
Abstract
This paper aims to provide a translation and commentary of Constantine Rhodius’ invective against Leo Choirosphaktes, dwelling on analogies which the present poem shows with the distruptive techniques generally occurring in Constantine’s scommatic production, namely the invective against Theodore Paphlagon and the poetic duel with the latter. Furthermore, the paper intends to highlight how the satiric poet exploits some historical facts related to the public offices held by Leo in order to implicitly attack him.
