Considerations on terkininei and eskenim of the bronze from Torrijo [TE.03.01] and the use of the dual writing system in Celtiberian
Abstract
This article suggests new phonetic interpretations for two words that appear in the Celtiberian bronze from Torrijo (terkininei and eskenim) from which new morpho-etymological possibilities are drawn. For terkininei it is proposed [tregnīney], dative singular of a possible i-stem *tregnīnis. eskenim could be read [eχskenim] and at least two possible morpho-etymological interpretations have been identified: *egʰs-ken-im or *egʰs-kenh1-im. Other forms such as eskeinis, eskeninum, genis and gentis are also commented. Finally, some reflections on the dual writing system in various Celtiberian documents are proposed.
