What is unmistakably aristotelian in aristotle’s Metaphysics?: a philological attempt at reconstruction of the oral course of philosophy
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to identify those parts of Metaphysics that come directly from Aristotle’s oral teaching. To this end, it examines the presence of demonstratives with deictic particle -ί, which appear only in oral language. The result is a coherent discourse composed in an early period, that investigates the fi rst principles and causes and reaches a fi rst mover, existing actually, divine thought. Later, in a second version not used por lectures, a new approach seems to have been taken by another writer: now the subject of the enquiry (of the books VII-VIII, IX, XII and Metaphysics as a whole) is substance.Downloads
