Abstract

Through the present work it’s intended, by the analysis of Callixenus Rhodius’ text, The Pompe of Ptolomeus Philadelphus, included in Athenaeus’ Deipnosophists, to disentangle the motifs of its inclusion and its functionality in it. The Pompe and its use by Atheaneus serves as starting point to analyze the confl uence of cultures not only in the procession, but also in Deipnosophists, and as a sample that Greek literature, in s. II d.C., under Roman dominion, continues being part of an ancient tradition that not only it hasn’t been interrupted, but also it has changed and it has been constantly renewed, incorporating oriental elements and self-adapting to the new environment (Egypt before, now Rome and the Empire in general).
