"Cistaceae" from A. J. Cavanilles (1745-1804), in the herbaria of the Real Colegio Alfonso XII (San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Madrid)
Abstract
We present a brief description of one set of Cistaceae deposited in the herbarium of the Real Colegio Alfonso XII of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. All of them belong to A. J. Cavanilles herbarium. The historical importance of these sheets is increased due to the fact as among them 6 sheets are type materials (Cistus cinereus Cav., Cistus dichotomus Cav., Cistus glaucus Cav., Cistus mollis Cav., Cistus serratus Cav. and Cistus violaceus Cav.) and 3 were used for Willkomm & Lange (1861-1880) as reference in order to establish the species corology in the classic Prodromus Florae Hispanicae.
