The organization of events for tourism purposes
Abstract
The growth of special events in Spain has been a constant feature during the last decades. Many factors, linked both to the production and consumption sphere, are responsible of this trend. Our main goal in this research is to identify and explain the mechanisms that allow the use of events as a way to foster tourism development, and also to raise the challenges in implementing that policy. Our conclusions suggest that is difficult to link event and tourism development strategies due to the multiplication of supply, demand concentration and the lack of a specific tourism policy. Nevertheless, events are a good option as a local development tool, according to their capacity to provide tourism attraction and positive local impacts over the accommodation sector.Downloads
