Unaccompanied minor migrants in a transition area: Milazzo (Sicily-Italy)
Abstract
Sicily has been one of the main gateways for the arrival of unaccompanied minor migrants to Europe. Several devices at local scale have been organized to welcome these young people. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of the stay in Sicily on the migratory projects of these young people: if it is conceived as a place of transition or finally a place for permanence. For answer this question our study adopts a local scale with a series of interviews in a host association in the municipality of Milazzo. The results reveal that, although for many of these young people Sicilia is a transitional space, other types of changes in the projects of other young people are also detected.
