The decline of silos in Tierra de Campos in the region of Castile and León (Spain)
Abstract
This paper looks at building strategies and intervention in silos in Spain and particularly, in the area of Tierra de Campos located in one of its regions –Castile and Leon. Their type and geographical distribution, which is structured in a territory marked by production and dependence on agricultural production such as grain, are analyzed. We reflect on the singularities of these constructions in relation to other elements of the landscape. The discussion focuses on the empirical analysis of the silos in a unique region known as "the granary of Spain". In all cases, these emerge as a resource of great potential, although their management and intervention proposals are not perfect.
