Abstract

However, in few cases the object of research focuses on the spatial patterns affecting the location of their workplaces. With regard to this challenge, this article examines the current relevance, recent trends and patterns of localization of these activities in the metropolitan region of Madrid by means of a municipal analysis of affiliated workers data at December 31st of 2009. In addition, from the theoretical point of view and using a cross-section approach the validity of interpretations based on the impact of economic and technological changes on the organization of large urban agglomerations is reviewed and discussed.
