Risk assessment of the trees of plaza Belgrano in Punta Alta (Argentina)
Abstract
The article aims to evaluate the risk of the wooded plaza Belgrano in Punta Alta, Argentina. For this purpose, a survey of the trees was carried out, identifying 156 specimens. Each was observed in its height, the inclination of the cup, the diameter at chest height, the state of the cup, the percentage of dry branches and the physical and sanitary condition. Subsequently, 20 trees from 6 species were selected and the Basic Visual Assessment method was applied to determine their risk. As a result, Acacia melanoxylon and Parasenegalia visco were identified as the species that presented the greatest risk in the plaza. The main defects of the trees observed were root problems and weak branch connections. The correct selection of tree species in green spaces and their proper maintenance is key to reducing the level of risk posed by trees to the population that circulates through the square.
