Abstract
- In keeping with the principle of unity of knowledge, in Aline and Valcour Sade makes a full sweep of the sciences: biology, botany, sociology, politics, economy, law, philosophy. This open-minded approach is proof of his encyclopedic spirit. However, far from offering a canonical classification, the divine marquis is particularly concerned with deviations from the norm: he pays special attention to pseudoscience (alchemy, wichcraft, necromacy), torture, pederasty, incest. Our aim is to probe deeper into these “anomalies” and into Sade’s thinking about them.Downloads
