Abstract

From a syntactic-semantic point of view, this article focuses on the contrastive analysis of cause connectives in French and standard Mandarin such as parce que, puisque, car, 因为 yīnwéi , 由于 yóuyú et 既然 jìrán. The article analyzes the syntactic constraints of these connectors in the two languages; it presents the semantic properties of these connectors in the modal approach by explaining the links between these syntactic constraints and the different modalities of the connectors in order to propose a modal classification with more relevance than the semantic analyzes in previous research.
