Abstract

The 20th century was marked by traumatic historical events. As a result, human beings sought to express their suffering by means of cultural forms, such as, of course, literature. Taking this into account, this article aims to reassess the concept of trauma, how it has been conceptualized by psychiatry, and how the act of writing a traumatic event can indeed help the process of healing. This critical perspective on trauma and trauma studies will be applied to the work of Jorge Semprún in an attempt to explore the verbalization of his experience in the concentration camp of Buchenwald.
