Abstract

Seventy five years ago, the Spanish Civil War broke out. Although Belgium was not one of the nations literarily involved in this tragedy,, many Belgian writers referred to the war in their writings, and still do, even nowadays. In this article, we will present testimonies of two writers that belong to different generations: Hubert Nyssen (1925) and Vincent Engel (1963). In fact, they both fulfill an essential mission in any democratic society: the duty of historical memory.
